Long Dan Xie Gan Tang History
Long Dan Xie Gan Tang translates as Gentiana Decoction to Drain the Liver. Though was first recorded in the 17th century by Wang Ang, it can be traced back to an earlier time when an herbalist prescribed this formula to the Empress Dowager Ci Xi. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, fire in the Liver can manifest as various infectious and inflammatory disorders along the Liver meridian. The formula is named after the most important ingredient, long dan cao, which effectively drains the fire from the Liver.
