Ge Gen Tang History

Ge Gen Tang translates as Kudzu Decoction is an effective harmonizing formula described in the Shang Hun Lun (Treatise on Cold Damage) almost 2000 years ago by Zhang Zhongjing, known as the Chinese Hippocrates. The formula is named after the formula’s primary herbal ingredient, Ge Gen, which relieves common cold symptoms and the resultant upper back stiffness.

Ge Gen Tang Ingredient Functions

Ge Gen: a root herb that relieves common cold symptoms and eases achy muscles

Ma Huang: a stem that relieves asthma and common cold symptoms

Gui Zhi: a twig that improves blood circulation and supports proper flow of blood and fluids

Bai Shao: peony root regulates the menstrual cycle and relieves painful spasms

Gan Cao: licorice root helps boost energy, relieves spasms, and balances the formula

Sheng Jiang: fresh ginger eases morning sickness and regulates stomach

Da Zao: jujube boosts energy, regulates emotions, and harmonizes the formula

Ge Gen Tang Ingredients

Concentrated powders of natural herbal products tend to absorb moisture from the air. Hence, it is necessary for the manufacturer to add a suitable amount of excipient to stabilize the concentrated herbal products. Lactose and non-GMO starch are used as excipients.
