Xiao Chai Hu Tang translates as Minor Bupleurum Decoction is a popular harmonizing formula described in the Shang Hun Lun (Treatise on Cold Damage) almost 2000 years ago by Zhang Zhongjing. The formula was originally used to treat fluctuating patterns of heat and cold symptoms though today it treats varying conditions involving liver or gallbladder dysfunction.
